About us

I am a Colombian-Canadian journalist and communication specialist with several years of experience in the written media. In 1989 I started my professional life in a prestigious publishing business as director and editor of women's magazines. In 1999 I travelled to France where I studied French and married the man who has accompanied me during this wonderful journey of life. However, my time in Europe was short because in 2000 fate led me to settle in Washington DC, where I studied English as my third language. My only and beloved daughter was born, I worked at an Hispanic association, and I developed my literary project aimed at bilingual children based on true stories. At the end of 2011, I returned to Colombia with my family and became an editor of the women's magazines in one of the most important newspapers nationwide. However, after a while, I began to sense once again that feeling of insecurity and violent atmosphere that years ago I had fled from. Unfortunately, this continues to be prominent in my country, particularly gender based violence and child abuse that is breathed every minute in Colombia. These events and the difficult adaptation my family faced in this country's poor and underdeveloped conditions, influenced our decision to settle in Canada. From this wonderful nation that opened its doors to me and through Puro Cuento, I want to share my stories and offer a safe space for women and girls who deserve to be respected, valued and protected by the universal laws and governments.

I am an ambitious student passionate about writing, international relations, and the pressing issues revolving the world. I am a trilingual young woman, of American origin, with Colombian and French roots who loves to travel and interact with people around the world. I was an editor, writer and business manager for the school newspaper Graffiti. I have participated competitively Model UN conferences: receiving best delegate award in UTMUN in UN Women, outstanding delegate in OXFORD MUN in the Commission on the status of women, outstanding delegate in HCMUN in the World Health Organization and active participant in HMUN in the SOCHUM committee. As an American I have witnessed the American dream, as a Colombian I have seen a beautiful country that struggles and suffers with violence and inequality, as French I have immersed myself in multiculturalism. With my online presence and outgoing personality, I am determined to make an impact, both in and outside of my community, through both activism and self-awareness that we seek through Puro Cuento.
